any idea on what kind (if any) scripting language will be used?
any idea if this will be client, server side or both?

I made a similar inquiry in the past to see if something like KML or SL script would be available. The response seem to imply there would be on the server side. I am looking forward to this as this promises to be a nice interactive presentation tool for data visualization. I know there are plenty of "research grade" systems out there and such need a bit of a push to use. A nice games base system should have the ease of use for viewing that my users are after and still have the programmers backend for expansion.

It is likely that the scripting language will be Lua (though we haven't ruled out other possibilities at this stage including something Java-based or even a custom language). Initially, the main purpose of the scripting will be for the AI and hence it will mainly be server-based. Later, we will be looking at client-side scripting. Probable uses of this will include user interface customisation as well as scene graph interaction.

I have not used LUA but then a scripting language is a scripting language, the basics are the same just the syntaxes tend to be different. A client-side JAVA based language, jython or beanshell, would be useful as well. Both would useful for the Blender and Art-Of-Illusion modelling tool users happy.

Thank you for your comments.
Although we have chosen Lua for server-side scripting, the architecture has been designed to accommodate other choices. Although Lua will be available as the default, we will monitor peoples opinions and wishes with regard to future enhancements. This also applies to client-side scripting.
I am particularly interested in your reference to modeling packages. I am sure that a wide range will be in use, especially by the enthusiast. Our hope is to keep the pipeline from these as smooth as possible. Silo 2 is another package that offers very good value for money.

Good choice with Lua. Its a commonly known language.
I am curious if each model will have a script attached to it for basic shaders and animation.

The client-side scripting will provide access to the 3D Engine's scene graph API as well as the Elf2D API (for UI) which we are hoping will provide everybody with plenty of flexibility.

Will the next phase of the beta testing involve the client-side scripting? This is what I'm most interested in. Also for the those of us not in the current phase of the beta testing is there a way for us to see the current geometry trials?

We are planning two further phases of this beta 1 release. The next phase (phase 3) will have additional World Builder tools and the final phase (phase 4) will have scripting.
With regard to viewing models, each world owner can invite guests and a number have done so. They just need to write to us with their request.
Beta 2 will have public areas with more general access and this will be offered to all beta testers who wish to simply wander around.
I hope that helps.

Yes it does. I'm also keen to see how the "wander about" aspect works. I'm look to use this as an interactive scientific visualization tool more than a game platform. Thanks again.
